Hao-Wen (Gilbert) Chen is a friendly and passionate medical illustrator from Taiwan who is always eager to learn and explore. As a child, Gilbert dreamed of becoming both a scientist and an artist and continues to view the world through both a curious and a creative lens.
After earning his Bachelor of Science in Bioscience Technology at Chung Yuan Christian University in Taiwan, Gilbert pursued formal fine art training while working as a research assistant. Driven by his desire to use art to communicate complex scientific and medical concepts, he traveled to the United States to pursue a graduate degree in Medical and Biological Illustration at Johns Hopkins University.
In addition to his love for art and science, Gilbert is fascinated with patterns. He enjoys observing patterns from different perspectives and creates visual patterns as a hobby. Through this exploration, Gilbert gains a deeper understanding of patterns and their role in the world around us.
During his graduate studies, Gilbert experimented with different visual media to create engaging and informative visualizations. He is always open to trying new techniques and approaches to convey complex ideas, including the use of novel AI-assisted technologies.
Gilbert’s passionate nature shines through in his eagerness to explore new ways of communicating scientific ideas. He believes that by combining art and science, we can gain a better understanding of the world around us and help others do the same.
